Mapping my journey through New Zealand’s beautiful Southern Islands
QGIS Software
Using QGIS, I created a detailed map of New Zealand’s South Island, highlighting essential amenities like hotels, tourist attractions, gas stations, and rest areas.
The map includes a legend and a measurement scale, with clearly labeled and color-coded locations for easy navigation, facilitating effective planning and a smoother travel experience.
Google Maps Integration
By exporting to a JSON format and georeferencing to Google Maps, I can effectively use QGIS to transfer data to a mobile device, allowing me to access it on the go.
This enables me to find directions using Google Maps with landmarks already indicated, helping me navigate to spots not originally available on Google Maps, such as rest areas and gas stations.
